Home Care Concerns: Myths Debunked

Hiring a caregiver can cause a lot of anxiety. Clients often find themselves worried about affording home care, finding enough for them to do while they are there, and inviting a stranger into their home. To clarify these and more, we listed the top home care concerns that clients have when thinking about hiring a caregiver.

  1. I can’t afford Home Care. Long-term care insurance may cover the costs of a caregiver, however if you do not have long-term care insurance, there are other alternatives. There are government relief programs that may aid with these costs. Also, many of our clients have family members that help pool resources together. Finally, at Tender Home Health, we will work with you based on you budget and what type of care is needed.
  1. There is not enough for a caregiver to do, it will be a waste. When talking to your home care agency, ask that there is a schedule that can be provided so the caregiver knows what they will be doing during the day. This limits your need to give instruction to the caregiver and ensures that they are productive during your care. If you find that changes are needed, your home care agency can work with you to ensure that this is addressed.
  1. I’m going to be stuck with a stranger I don’t want. Most home care agencies work towards ensuring that they have the right caregiver. If for some reason it is not a fit, your home care agency can assign you another caregiver. In addition, a Case Manager will do regular check-ins to ensure quality of care and gather feedback from you. At Tender Home Health, we encourage a free interview or the first visit would be free to ensure that it is a good match.
  1. I really don’t want someone doing everything for me. We understand that dignity is a very sensitive subject and we do our best to ensure that our clients are always treated with dignity and respect. Many clients struggle with the loss of independence and do not want the caregivers doing certain things that they can do themselves. During your initial assessment, it is important to voice those concerns, so we can address these items appropriately. As long as it does not jeopardize your safety, we can work together to make this a wonderful experience for you. This is most biggest concern we see with clients, so we train our caregivers to ensure that you are independent as possible. At Tender, our goal is to take care of the everyday tasks so you can enjoy you freedom doing more exciting tasks like be with family or go on adventures.
