Although they seem one in the same, home health and home care differ. Home health is initiated by a doctor’s orders and it involves medical care by licensed professionals such as a registered nurse or therapist. The services are typically covered by a patient’s medical insurance. One the other hand, home care refers to non-medical support care, such as bathing/dressing, housekeeping and/or transportation to name a few. These services are not typically covered by a patient’s medical insurance; rather, a patient is expected to pay out of pocket.
