Home Gym for Seniors

While it is always important for anyone to stay healthy and in shape regardless of age, deciding on what type of equipment to purchase for your home gym may rest solely on that. For seniors specifically, you may want to choose a machine that is as safe as possible which means eliminating the use of free weights.

This excludes equipment such as power cages and Smith machines and the complimentary barbells and dumbbells. Instead, choosing machines that use easily adjustable cable weights may be the safest and most efficient way to go. Taking this route would eliminate all instances of dropping free weights onto any of your body parts.

In addition, adjusting the weights for a specific exercise can be done in a matter of seconds as opposed to bending over to pick up free weights and accidentally injuring your back.

Another characteristic to look for in home gyms is the functionalities of the machines. Nowadays there are tons of options of multifunctional machines to choose from. These range from machines that focus on arms (biceps and triceps), to chest and shoulders, to quads and calf exercises.

The options today are endless so it is important to choose a machine, or combination of machines, that suit the types of exercises that best fulfill your personal needs. Needless to say, after choosing your perfect exercise machine(s), you should only add enough weight that you know your body can take and gradually increase these weights.
