COVID-19 Vaccine Myths

The COVID-19 vaccine is now being administered to all those 16 and over. However, there is still a good portion of the population that is refusing the vaccine. Regardless of the reason, it is always better to be educated on the vaccine. We reviewed the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) website to help filter through the facts. Here are the top points –

1) The vaccine will make me sick with COVID-19. This is not true. The current recommended vaccines do not currently have a live virus and therefore cannot make you sick with the virus.
2) I do not to take the vaccine if I’ve already had COVID-19 and recovered. This is not true. Re-infection is possible, so it is best to get vaccinated again.
3) After getting the vaccine, I’ll test positive for COVID-19. This is not true. None of the recommended vaccines will cause a positive current test for COVID-19.
4) The vaccine will not protect me from getting sick from COVID-19. This is not true. The vaccine helps your immune system fight the virus that causes COVID-19. This in turn protects you from the getting sick with COVID-19.
5) The vaccine will alter my DNA. This is not true. The vaccine, called mRNA vaccines, do not interact with your DNA. The vaccine works with our body to develop immunity to the disease.

As with all vaccines, it is always safest to keep educated and continue to keep checking the CDC website for new information. But let us all make an educated decision!
